Academic Center for Trauma and Personality

Welcome to the Academic Center for Trauma and Personality (ACTP). We offer specialized treatment for people suffering from personality disorders or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) caused by childhood trauma. Our care focuses on recovery from the disorder and improving quality of life.

We offer treatments for which there is scientific evidence of their effectiveness. The ACTP works closely with the research group of prof. Arnoud Arntz, University of Amsterdam (UvA), in developing and evaluating new treatments. We also involve participating clients in this process. All this to make the treatments as effective and acceptable as possible.

Our treatments for personality disorders last 1 year for Cluster-C and Otherwise Specified Personality Disorders and 2 years for Borderline Personality Disorder. For other personality disorders the duration will vary between 1 and 2 years. Treatment is outpatient (1 or 2 sessions per week). During treatment, frequency is often gradually reduced so that clients can get used to life without therapy.

Treatment for PTSD symptoms lasts 6 to 12 weeks, and focuses on processing trauma in a clear and defined pathway.

We believe in continuous improvement and therefore strive to provide quality and scientifically based treatments. New clients will therefore in many cases be invited to participate in ongoing research.

We also offer English-language treatment.

As a referrer, you can refer people suffering from personality disorders or PTSD due to childhood trauma to ACTP. We are ready to support your clients in their recovery process.
